The core requirement for a Supply Chain Manager is to possess end-to-end supply chain management capabilities. They should be able to reduce costs and improve efficiency by optimizing planning, procurement, logistics, and other processes, while also having the ability to anticipate risks and collaborate across departments. Specifically, the requirements are divided into the following four dimensions:
I. Core Educational Background & Professional Discipline
Educational Requirement: A bachelor’s degree or above is generally required. Some enterprises (especially leading companies/multinational corporations) give priority to candidates with a master’s degree.
Professional Match: Relevant majors include Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Procurement Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, International Trade, etc.
II. Core Job Skills
End-to-end Supply Chain Management Capability: Proficiency in end-to-end processes such as demand forecasting, production planning (MPS/MRP), procurement management (supplier development and negotiation), inventory control (e.g., JIT/safety stock optimization), and logistics distribution (warehousing/transportation/cross-border logistics).
Data Analysis & Tool Application: Ability to use Excel (pivot tables/functions), ERP systems (e.g., SAP/Oracle/Ufida), and supply chain management software (e.g., Kinaxis/Blue Yonder) for data review to support decision-making (e.g., cost reduction, inventory turnover optimization).
Cost & Efficiency Optimization Capability: Possess cost breakdown thinking (e.g., procurement costs, logistics costs, inventory holding costs) and be able to balance "cost reduction + delivery guarantee" through process optimization and supplier integration.
Risk Management & Control Capability: Ability to anticipate supply chain risks (e.g., supplier shortages, logistics delays, policy changes) and develop contingency plans (e.g., alternative suppliers, multiple logistics channels).
III. Experience Requirements
Basic Experience: Generally, at least 5 years of supply chain-related experience is required, including a minimum of 2-3 years of team management experience (leading a small team of 3 or more people).
Industry Experience: Priority is given to candidates with experience in the target industry (e.g., manufacturing requires knowledge of production collaboration, FMCG requires knowledge of inventory turnover, cross-border e-commerce requires knowledge of cross-border logistics and customs clearance).
Preferred Experience: Practical experience in Lean Production, Six Sigma (6σ), or experience in cross-border supply chains and global procurement is a plus.
IV. Soft Skills & Competencies
Cross-departmental Collaboration Ability: Need to frequently communicate with production, sales, finance, R&D, and other departments to align requirements (e.g., coordinating production plans to match sales orders).
Communication & Negotiation Ability: Internally, can clearly convey supply chain needs; externally, can negotiate efficiently with suppliers and logistics providers (e.g., on price, delivery cycle, service terms).
Pressure Resistance & Problem-solving Ability: Can respond quickly to emergencies (e.g., urgent orders, supplier breaches) and drive problem resolution.
Holistic & Long-term Thinking: Not only focus on short-term delivery and costs, but also consider supply chain resilience (e.g., sustainable supply chains, digital transformation).
