On July 28, reporters learned that South Korea's Orion recently posted a recall announcement on its official website, stating that mold was discovered in some of its "Fish-shaped Pies" (also translated as "Fish-shaped cakes" or "Crucian carp cakes"), prompting a voluntary recall of related products on the market. The affected products are worth approximately 1.5 billion won (about 7.84 million yuan). The announcement shows that the recalled products are all batches of "Fish-shaped Pies" produced in South Korea before July 23, 2025, and still within their shelf life. The involved flavors include original and sugar pie flavor, but do not include cream flavor produced on different production lines. Orion Korea stated that it has inspected the entire production process of "Fish-shaped Pies" and preliminarily the cause was a fault in some packaging machine joints. Tiny gaps prevented complete isolation from external air, and recent (high temperature and rainy) weather increased the possibility of mold growth. On July 26, China Orion also issued a statement on its website, stating that companies established by the Orion Group in various countries operate independently. The recalled "Fish-shaped Pies" are produced and sold by Orion Korea, and China Orion's related products have no quality issues. Orion Korea immediately notified authorized importers in the Chinese market to confirm inventory and sales and initiate recovery work. However, it is important to note that related products may enter the Chinese market through unauthorized channels such as individual e-commerce and purchasing agents. If consumers encounter the aforementioned "Fish-shaped Pies" products produced in South Korea through any channel, it is recommended not to purchase them. If domestic consumers have already purchased them, it is recommended to contact the original purchase channel for returns.
